Q - Where can I find out more about the validity of this site and the company Earth SOS?
A - Hello, Thank you for your question and this website is administered by Jaret Forman, Vancouver, BC, Canada. It is a work in progress website that is trying to build to become a better resource to visitors about sustainable living. To contact Jaret, please email jaret@earthsos.org. Thank you.
Q - What are the 3R's?
A - The 3R's are: reduce, reuse and recycle.
Q - How do I contact you about bad links or for networking?
A - Please email us at jaret@earthtrends.ca.
Q - What are some of the effects of the warming planet?
A - Ecological changes that have been studied and recorded are: * Frog population and variety is changing drastically in the Cost Rica area causing concern for amphibians worldwide. * Certain species of Penguin are dwindling, possibly due to an average winter temperature being 9 degrees fairenheit different from what it was 50 years ago. 20% of the sea ice they use as a feeding platform is also gone since the mid 70's. * When one species changes its habitat it affects the animals that feed on it. Most animals feed on multiple things and will not follow just one change but try to adapt. * 4 million acres of Alaska spruce died victims of the spruce bark beetle. The beetle was killed by the cold winter where it lived in the past. With global warming the beetle was not killed off and then spread south, devastating forests. * Warm ocean water causes coral to shed the algae that nourish it - a bleaching that leaves the coral white. In 1998 the worlds coral suffered it's worst year on record, which left 16 percent bleached or dead. (Many forms of sea life depend on coral reefs) * Summer sea ice break up where polar bears and sea lions feed now occurs 2 to 3 weeks earlier than in the mid 20th century. * The few "cloud tropical rainforests" remaining are experiencing less clouds every year. They are forming higher now because of rising temperatures near the surface. Many forms of life rely on the misty environment and are being forced to follow the clouds up where there is less room and more compettion. * Caribou numbers have fallen by over 20% and scientists suspect it is because of the green vegetation starting and ending earlier, not giving the calves enough time to fatten for winter.
Q - What is earthsos.org contact information?
A - Hello and thank you. Earthsos.Org Created by Earth Trends Ent. Vancouver BC 604-637-6193 jaret@earthtrends.ca
Q - Who started earthsos.org?
A - Jaret Forman and Irv Akapov.
Q - What makes Hybrid cars different from Green Cars?
A - A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that combines more than 1 power source. A Green car is car that endeavors to be the greener version of its unhealthy counterpart. This can be a very green car like a solar powered one or a Toyota Prius.
Q - What is Hemp?
A - Hemp is the fibre from the cannabis sativa plant. It is an extremely versatile and greatly underused resource. This amazing fibre has a vast range of applications - from construction to textiles - even food. Boards made of hemp are used for building construction, its fibres can be woven into strong fabric, its oils can be used as fuel and its seeds make suitably nutritious food for both animals and humans alike. The widespread use of hemp would reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, cotton production, and logging.
Q - What is the Greenhouse Effect?
A - The transmission of shortwave solar radiation by the atmosphere coupled with the selective absorption of longer-wavelength terrestrial radiation, especially by water vapour and carbon dioxide, resulting in warming of the atmosphere.
Q - What is Global Warming?
A - Global Warming is of course exactly what it says, the atmosphere we live in that encompasses the earth is on a warming trend. The issue of the day is how powerful of a trend based on scientific knowledge recorded from many different tests that can date back things tens of thousands of years, even hundreds of thousands. Unfortunately, the world has been running for billions. From the information available the warming trend appears to be harsher than ever this recent 50 years than over the last hundreds of thousands.
